Indeed. Not the version we usually hear, or see in the hymn books. Does anyone know who did it?

Aside: What a job, recording all these anthems!

Thanks. That has clarified it nicely.

I will try to improve on my Welsh language skills as soon as I have finished reading this quality newspaper

        Re. #150:
If they're both going to get a bronze, then surely there's no need for them to play each other in order to discover who comes third? And does the same principle apply to the various combinations of doubles?

In the football matches the semi-final losers play each other to determine which gets the bronze. If it's the same in tennis I don't see how Murray is guaranteed a bronze.

Yes, Floss, you are quite correct ... the two losing semi-finalists have to play-off for a bronze medal this time.

However, in the past both semi-final losers collected a bronze.

So considering who's left Murray has still a bit to do to even collect any sort of medal, though it does look like he's rather 'up for this one', as our media friends love to put it ...

It would seem that the man on R4 was wrong, then.

(Music note: The semi-final loser play off will no longer decide the difference between a major third and a minor third.)

But it now appears that Philip Hindes crashed on purpose because they got off to a bad start (the Today programme replayed an interview with him and I've found this in The Telegraph) Evidently, this is not against the rules but it somehow smacks of cheating?

Yes, though these days it might be described as 'gamesmanship' ...

I saw the interview and Hindes was refreshingly honest, if apparently hopelessly naive in the face of media questioning. He speaks English with a distinct German accent and some have suggested his words may have been misinterpreted, but I can't really see what other interpretation can possibly be applied.

Until I read about this incident, I felt sorry for Hoy as in any other year with another gold medal, he would be Sports Personality of the Year.

Now I don't and I will make a point of voting for the first time. For Wiggins.

This morning Grainger and Watkins got gold.

                        Good for you!

It's a very safe bet that if both Wiggins and Hoy had found themselves in the other's position you would still be casting an enthusiastic vote for the Englishman ...

I was pleased to see that you had written God Save the Queen on an earlier post. At last common sense prevails.

Being completely focussed on Britain, I had completely forgotten that Hoy was from the Scottish region.

You might have noticed that Watkins and Grainger are another English-Scottish duo. With collaboration, you get gold and without it you get nothing.

Any news on Andy Murray yet?

Yeah! don't you get fed up with them pesky medalling Scots!!!!!

There's only one sports personality of this year - Wiggins! Winning Le Tour makes him the top sports person anyway, and he's also got personality - his speech on the Champs Elysées was crackin' when he said, 'I will now draw the raffle!'

Hoy is a fantastic sportsman, committed, focussed and a top guy - but he's not this year's BBCSPOTY! (He's won it before anyway!)

Very generous John. Following Wiggo's victory, I wonder if we will soon get our first English Prime Minister since early 1997.

Anyone following the dressage? There was a New Zealander (f) who was the best rider I have ever seen.
