I wasn't aware that there were any proposals to make all Scottish catholics get Gay Married ?
the idiotic cardinal really should shut up and stop trying to impose his ideas on the rest of society (not that his own congregation take much notice of him anyway , but that's ok because they can seek "forgiveness" for their deeds )

Apart from matters of sex, it also suggests combining two different elements (like a screw and a nut) rather than a 'partnership' which implies initial similarity.

Away from all the bile and hysteria about consistent and long-standing Catholic teaching, the straight-talking if rather rough-edged O'Brien (an original son of Belfast, who probaby knows more about genuine bigotry than most members here) has actually got it absolutely right!
Ah the joy of dictionaries and encyclopaedias. You could almost certainly find one in a religious or university library that asserts that the Sun moves around the earth, scotty before & during the period when the Vatican was persecuting Galileo - don't make it true tho, do it?

I'd suggest that any bigotry that Cardinal Keef has experienced is as nought to the daily bigotry that lesbians and gay men experience even today, currently largely from Cardinal Keef and his apparatchiks

"Hate speech is, outside the law, communication that vilifies a person or a group on the basis of colo[u]r, disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation, or other characteristic.

In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. The law may identify a protected individual or a protected group by disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, nationality, religion, race, sexual orientation, or other characteristic. In some countries, a victim of hate speech may seek redress under civil law, criminal law, or both. A website that uses hate speech is called a hate site. Most of these sites contain Internet forums and news briefs that emphasize a particular viewpoint. There has been debate over how freedom of speech applies to the Internet."

Please note that 'protected groups' on this forum include Catholics/Anglicans, gays and listeners to Radio 3 (but not administrators/moderators and FoR3 whom members are free to vilify, disparage, incite violence against or ridicule - up to a point) .

I might decide that some of these contributions are getting very repetitive and declare them 'spam' on the grounds that I'm beginning to find them boring.

          Very reasonable admonition, french frank.

I think most of the critics of the Catholic Church have been careful to couch their remarks about the institution, which has been vocal on the matter of equal marriage, rather than about its adherents who are largely silent and who anyway frequently use 'common sense' to ignore the central diktat

Yes that the 'idiotic cardinal really should shut up 'cos nobody will listen to him anyway' seems to be the main thrust of the 'liberal' and 'equality' argument here, Mr GG. I'm sure our friend Flossie had absolutely no intention of really 'stirring things up' here by drawing attention to the Scottish government's intentions and innocently and unwittingly starting a thread such as this?.

Still, ping-pong forum banter aside, marriage has always been for a man and a woman in the same way as the Women's Institute is for the ladies only and a Male Voice Choir is strictly for the laddies. Bandyiing words like 'equality' about in such contexts are bogus and absurd.

This is really all about extremist 'pink politics' and western governments and others desperately trying to appear 'politically correct' and nothing much else, imv ... only the cardinal and his like seem to be making much sense in this needless and quite deliberately engineered controversy.

This forum has no liability for the teaching of the Catholic church. Though if the forum is used to attack it, it seems inevitable that others will defend it. There's a limit to how many times the forum can stand this being rehearsed. As there was a limit to how many times it would tolerate every Daily Mail news story on immigration being posted.
