I can't find anything in The New Grove re Bruckner's alleged love of trains.

It was the last one that didn't work for me!

I suppose Bruckner must have been quite familiar with trains as he famously travelled to both Paris and London to perform in solo organ recitals and I doubt he went these long distances by horse and carriage!

I had forgotten about that sketch of the composer sitting in a rail carriage. Most sketches (and photos) of him are distinctly unflattering and in that picture he looks quite 'the man about town'?
