Apple at one time had the better machines + software for specific applications - however even then they 'abused' standards (eg using a same plug/cocket for data transfers) but swopping over two key wires! so the cheaper non-apple gear which operated to same standard would not work. However Gates was the arch monopolist (+ bought off the US court by political donations) - Jobs was just the arch control freak who got his start by building equipment to steal phone calls.

Apple still have the better machines and the better OS. Lights blue touch paper and stands well back.
