    Sir Alastair Burnet

    The death has been reported, at the age of 84, of Sir Alastair Burnet. I've always considered him one of the best of all TV newsreaders. He fronted the ITN News when it was at its best (and most popular, regularly appearing in the 'Top Ten' programmes), with a combination of beautiful diction, authority and warm engagement with the viewer.

    Yes, there was an affectionate tribute to him on today's Last Word programme on Radio 4.
