    What about TalkSport?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

'Aha!' said Pip-Bin. 'I have devised an Automatic Usain Bolt Gold Medal Run Obliterator which will automatically switch my television receiver apparatus to an alternative channel. What is more, Mr. Gently Benevolent has tested it and assures me it will function satisfactorily'

You don't need anything as esoteric as talksport and 5live, ff. As a rule I listen to the news on R4 at various times of the day. This morning at 7 am the first four minutes were limpics. As others have said, they are impossible to avoid.

That said, Mr Wright, just who do you think you are to ascribe feelings of envy to me and others on this board?

Northender - thank you. The self-assurance and arrogance are breathtaking.

The only way they impinge on my life is when I access the BBC News website and they cover the entire screen until you scroll down to find the Other Top Stories (or 'real' news)

They would do, being hard bitten.

I am not seeing this as an either/or. Irrespective of all the negatives, I have seen some of the Olympics programmes and quite enjoyed them. Believe me, that requires magnanimity. As it happens, I quite like a bit of sport too. Always have done.

But what I am finding with this is that I am having to convince myself it is a calm sea before engaging with it. Mostly, what with the media saturation, it feels like a tidal wave. And the persistent comments on this thread about its very obvious limitations are a tiny antidote, a bit like throwing an occasional bucket of water at it, often in a fairly good natured way. I suppose anyone who is even mildly opposed should feel appreciative that a different opinion still carries some force when the flow is mainly one-way.

I propose Flosshilde for the Olympinonsense Gold Medal.

I think in this discussion the point may have been lost - these are the Olympic Games, emphasis on the last word. I suspect the Corporate envelope surrounding all major sporting activities these days has taken its toll. As for avoiding the broadcast games - some of us in the backwoods still only have 4 TV channels!

Yes, and this forum is populated mainly by folks who respect the opinions of others, and in my opinion some of the anti-pride-in-the -Olympics postings seem to be just folk just envious of others' ability to enjoy. It's my opinion, I'm not being arrogant. Indeed an example of arrogance is the miseries on here telling us that we should not enjoy the Olympics, and we should not be reminded of them through media and shop posters because it's all a political event to benefit large corporations.

Indeed, I am finding my own persistence rather tedious too, and you are prolongng it further!
JW, stop banging your head against a brick-wall - there are so many loser-tossers in here!! Just enjoy the Limpix for what you know they are, I know I am

I think you could take 40 winks & still not miss the over-the-top coverage.

Yep, we should reach silver in no time.

""The Olympic Park was just the best night, Jess, Farah and the long jump. We watched on a big screen," said Caroline Owens, who admitted to "breaking into" her wedding budget to keep coming back to the Games".

As far as I'm concerned you are completely wrong. I am intensely relaxed about people enjoying the Limps - I just don't want it rammed down my throat. It's you that seems to have a complex about people who aren't interested.

I see somebody lost his bottle, and then got his collar felt by the bluebottles.

But the one who, according to the Guardian, admits on Twitter to hitting him with 'no respect' is not guilty of assault?

Rather she is 'angry' at not seeing the final while tackling him?

Says it all about this country now.
