Actually, I did agree with something she said tonight, about the corporatism of the Olympic Games.

    I'm a bit worried - should I see a doctor?
Ah Melanie Philips - such a reasonable woman

Now that's a SERIOUSLY SCARY thought
(I actually agreed once with something she said on 'Question Time', and do not seem to have suffered any permanent damage as a result. ALL RIGHT Nurse, I'm coming.....)

That Ann McElvoy can be a bit of a ranter too, mind.

We could almost have a thread devoted entirely to the silliest questions asked by TV interviewers at these games ...

BBC Interviewer to army commanding officer this morning ... 'Are the soldiers enjoying themselves performing all their security tasks here ...?

PS ... if anybody is wondering, the officer gave a typically rambling, rather hesitant answer of positivity.

Is it me being a curmudgeon, or does this seem a trifle desperate?

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No you're not a curmudgeon, because if you are that means I am too!

It's a bit like all this media talk of yesterday's GB 'Gold Rush' ... I do wonder just how many fewer golds we'd have if it were a "trickle"? ..

                  Same goes for me!
To be fair, there may be people who will always remember where they were, what they were doing (and, where appropriate, with whom) when the first of these stamps were issued.

Or when mention was first made of the stamps in this forum.

"The stamps cost the normal first class price of 60p. "

                      Normal?

                      Since when was 60p normal?

Quite. Well....it was a Thursday, I seem to recall. Cloudy, just the odd bright spell. I was in the front room. I'd just switched on my PC to check the temperature in Nagoya (where our son lives. It was VERY hot there, I noticed). For some reason - call it curiosity, call it the Fickle Finger of Fate - I then decided to log onto the FoR3 Forum and check the latest posts, and noticed that there'd recently been an addition to the 'Olympinonsense' thread...and there it was, that picture of those two girls and that giant pretend stamp. I recall it all as clearly as if it had only just happened. (Sorry, there seems to be a lump in my throat).
