The 'problem' here is obvious. God Save the Queen is played when England play at football and is therefore now widely considered to be its anthem. The English are at 'fault' for hijacking the anthem for themselves . Therefore, neither the Welsh or Scots could reasonably be expected to sing it lustily. The latter particularly considering one of the insulting verses.

The players concerned merely stood there in an appropriately respectful manner. In any case, some England players don't sing the anthem either, so this is a typical chunk of utter garbage from the DM.
That would have been the case if they hadn't given reasons. The reasons they gave did not indicate ignorance, as is the case of some England footballers, but a compete lack of respect for the team they claim falsely to represent.

I am only going to count the English medals as British. The others might as well be won by Iran. They mean nothing to me.

She has plenty of options - climbing mountains, waltzing around in a kilt, living quietly in Cheshire, stuffing haggis, or building a 500 foot wall from Berwick to Gretna.

My tolerance has run out. We pay through the nose for them. They dominate our Parliament. They get everything for free. God knows why we put up with it - they have such unattractive personalities.

This media circus which follows the Olympic Flame will come to an end (at last) today. I really cannot see the point of trying to turn something that's so monotonous into national news. The occasional reference to it - fair enough; but TV cameras following it and patronising interviews for weeks on end - it's all become quite infuriating.
The torch tradition was for a relay of runners who carried the flame, day and night, from Athens to the host city. People would get up in the night to see it pass through their town or village. I find that an exciting idea. It hadsnow become an excuse for naffness and a platform for "how do you feel?" interviewers. Most of the able-bodied "runners" now walk or stand still to have their photographs taken.
If it's an attempt to be inclusive, it misses the point. The Olympics Games are for the elite athletes - a celebration of fitness and skill at the highest level. The flame should reflect that.

That's always the problem with tolerance!

I hadn't realised that smarter meant two-faced and grasping. You learn something new every day.

They are obviously gagging to turn the mainland into another Northern Ireland. Let the war begin.

Only verse 2 seems to be likely to give offence, and not to the Scots or Welsh, though there may be verses I don't know:-

                        1. God save our gracious Queen
                        Long live our noble Queen
                        God save the Queen
                        Send her victorious
                        Happy and glorious
                        Long to reign over us
                        God save the Queen

                        2. O Lord our God arise
                        Scatter her enemies
                        And make them fall
                        Confound their politics
                        Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
                        God save us all

                        3. Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour
                        Long may she reign
                        May she defend our laws
                        And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
                        God save the Queen

                        4. Not in this land alone
                        But be God's mercies known
                        From shore to shore
                        Lord make the nations see
                        That men should brothers be
                        And form one family
                        The wide world over

                        5. From every latent foe
                        From the assassins blow
                        God save the Queen
                        O'er her thine arm extend
                        For Britain's sake defend
                        Our mother, prince, and friend
                        God save the Queen

Verse 4 doesn't scan too well.

They don't subscribe in any way to verse 4 so I would imagine they would find that offensive too:

                          Lord make the nations see
                          That men should brothers be
                          And form one family
                          The wide world over

How our economy would be improved if all those in England were compulsorily transported back into their own country.

Yes, you'd have thought that, having gone to all the trouble to compose the damn thing, the poet would have realsed that "o'er" can constitute one syllable, thus overcoming the scanning problem!

                              Word of the Day: 'Unticketed'.
Does this mean: (a) The event concerned is free to watch. You don't need a ticket - just turn up and you'll gain admission
or (b) The event concerned is not open to members of the public?

The phrase "set for [bla bla bla]" or "set to [do/announce bla bla bla]" is a real bugbear of mine - so often used to write a lazy pointless story from a press release before something has happened.
