If it rains then only 2/3rds of the stadium is under cover, those who will be drenched during opening ceremony will be those who've paid the most for their tickets. An emergency order for thousands of plastic ponchos is being expedited. It seems the M4 is also not guaranteed to be open on time. Is it me or do the words Merry Time in a Brewery spring to mind?

I've been struggling with this one since I was at primary school. Why are there 5 Olympic Rings? The usual answer is that they represent the 5 continents from which athletes compete. So that's Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa and Oceania - oops, that's 6.
So there must be a compromise. Surely the Americas can't be "combined".
Or perhaps Oceania was forgotten.

despite initial doubts about brevity and meaning, 'way to go' perhaps suggests too many letters for marketing purposes?! the 'deliverence' marketing employees were actually being far too lavish, and suggestive there!!! maybe 'vague' would have sufficed? but karl marx actually had it spot on, as he mentioned, it should have just been 'cool'
(after all it's a very popular phrase)!
this far in the preparations, perhaps hastily prepared take away food language seems to fit best ....olympics - 'to go'? (if you include the question mark...it has the all important 5 characters, to neatly fit in the 5 circles)!
fizzy drinks, chips, kebabs and burgers are (of course) what the 5 circles will actually symbolise in 2012. doubtless, take away cafes will use the logo on their merchandise for the next year or so. snatching the window of opportunity to smarten up their image, use health & sport as a means of distracting attention from obesity, heart failure, and trans fatty acids. it's all good no need to shoot yourself in the foot or anything, (as you can rely on the deliverance team to do that).
as for the pink oboe theory, i actually much prefer serial apologist's 'p*ssing in blue' tbh....(it's much more topical, quintessentially 'british', and also politically correct(ish)).

it's probably 'best' not to mention what happens to other cities (here, and around the world) that hosted public events, or were given fancy titles, as 'make overs' bestowed on 'priority' areas, are fast giving 'regeneration' the reputation it perhaps often thoroughly deserves. i guess this is why the 2012 'chats' about 'sustainability' and 'legacy' are not only 'competitive' (when they shouldn't be, as they have roughly the same meaning ie a 'partnership' approach is implied) but also, signifies the fact that this approach is unsustainable, and can leave devastation in its wake as a 'legacy'.
thankfully, there are signs that this particular 21st c 'novelty' is finally being publicly assessed for exactly what it actually is, despite the official (and govt) waffle.
