Right. Excellent. So we have proved , after all, that the 7th biggest economy in the world can "deliver" a 2 weeks sports event. Without too much of a shambles.

I expect we will now move on to
    Decent housing.
    Good education.
An NHS that "delivers" and doesn't bankrupt its suppliers.
    regulating and controlling the banks.
    Job creation.
Good and good value public services.
Public transport of a good quality at a sensible price.
Sorting pensions so that people live to collect them.
R3 between 6.30 AM and Mid day.
    tax avoidance and evasion.
    Stopping invading countries.
    Etc.
Not necessarily in that order. But maybe all at once.
Start Monday morning Ok with you Seb? Dave?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Anyway, this closing ceremony is an embarrassment, just the sort of silly performance nonsense Danny Boyle avoided so brilliantly...

Her Maj has wisely stayed in with a box-set of 'Poirot' I see...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I can't believe I have watched that for 30 minutes. Who on earth was that ghastly woman in a green dress allegedly singing?
My life, each morning when I dress, is four and twenty hours less. (J Richardson)

Well if you had been watching you'd have seen her name of the screen (i'm sure you wouldn't have understood her name when spoken, so IF you really want to know her name (and I know you don't) then try google)

The two weeks have been just like the history of Britain.

It started slowly, was quite impressive a bit later and is now dire beyond belief and near its end.

Good luck to Dave as he returns from his fortnight "working" from home. It can't be more than a week or two before he gets the chance to go on holiday. He deserves it given all the strenuous effort he has put in.

Anyway, well done to the successful UK Athletes.

Before puffed up dave and seb actually explode with pride, let's hops they have a look at this league table
We all know who's in the lead on the medal tables - but what would happen if you looked at them by population size, or GDP - or even compared to the number of athletes in each team? A team of statisticians has worked with us to bring you a new way of judging the Olympic Games

And I feel sure they will feel that it was worth it
Britain will have spent £4.6 million on each Olympic medal it wins in these games if athletes meet projected targets, it has emerged.

.....cheaper than a war, at least. Probably cheaper than 5 years at Eton, actually.

Nah. Even with various extras you'd come away with change from a twentieth of that for five years at Eton. It's not the most expensive Public School you know, nor by any means the most academically successful.

Can we make that 11am please; it would still leave R3 with over 30 hrs of studio guests, tweets, texts, horoscopes, quizzes & a couple of Mahler symphonies each week.

At 11am R3 can hand over to Sports Galore in time for the day's ball by ball commentary on the test match & live evening coverage of ten pin bowling, nocturnal clay pigeon shooting, & flunking the marrow...

                          I like "dollop", btw.

                            yup, played football there, Lat.
In fact I have played football at a number of the countries top public schools. (Not very well).
Westminster, Eton, Winchester, cricket at Charterhouse.
I had the good fortune to go to a very good school, at which football was especially important.(which is why I wanted to go there !!)
Needless to say, I was strictly second X1 at footy.
                            !

I've just switched on - I see there's a sort-of Union Flag pattern in the arena. & now they've got Queen, who were, of course, famous for their perfromance at the Barcelona Olympics
