I know one thing: people were saying the Beijing opening thingy was unbeatable... But our wacky, kaleidoscopic ceremony eclipses all. I've had emails etc from France, Italy and the US and everyone thinks it was quite fantastic and totally inspired ("You must feel proud to be British" was one comment).
Anyway we have James Bond, Mr Bean and HM The Queen so we win anyway, quite apart from anything else

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Anyone know why Jeremy Hunt and Mr Bean are now indistinguishable?
I congratulate Boyle on his artistic version. The pop numbers were too lengthy but the rest of it was pretty close to how I dream most nights. Mythical England is a lot more palatable than the real thing. A shocking waste of money, mind.
