    Moving along to the Tour de France, I read recently that injections of testosterone were banned, but one competitor had a photograph of Pamela Anderson (http://www.picgifs.com/celebrities/p...son-722319.jpg just in case you are not familiar with her) taped to his handlebars to increase his levels without injections.

      Yes, who can forget Baywatch. Nice as that picture is, I doubt it was the one the competitor taped.

      We keep being assured that Bradley Wiggins is 'clean'. On that basis his performance really needs to be commended.

      I suppose there is a wider issue about the use of natural enhancements including food supplements and doing early morning exercises but the line is quite clear for me, ie. does an athlete have an unusual relationship with laboratories?

        I'm really excited about Bradley Wiggins going to win the Tour de France (assuming he doesn't crash today of course) as the first Briton to do so for nearly 100 years and I further like him enormously for a) being fluent in French, b) not taking drugs, c) slowing down the pelaton after the tack sabotage and d) being a bit eccentric. So, ALLEZ WIGGO !!!!

        In fact, having been caught up with the general cynicism of the Games I am now quite enthusiastic about them, particularly the cycling (wish I hadn't got rid of my bike) and do look forward to watching some events.

        The G4S fiasco of course is another matter (I see they are still bidding to run another 5 prisons) and their performance, plus the shambles of the ticket sales and the quite amateur Locog organisation, Seb Coe in particular, will be eternally shameful and damaging to the reputation of Britain. So, I'm hopeful that we shall see drug free athletes putting in some outstanding performances. I'm not so confident about Danny Boyle's opening ceremony.

            And thanks for pointing out that the coverage has shifted from ITV4 to ITV1 this afternoon: Some fantastic ITV HD pics of leafy France, chateaux etc, in the sunshine, with Paris to come

              Oh, we'll always have Paris!!
              I think Wiggins has been taken to heart by the French, hence banners saying 'Wiggo le Froggy'

                The high speed circuit race in Paris shortly, up the Champs and round (8 times I think), is going to be fun! Ever been chased round Paris, Anna?

                  In a manner of speaking, yes. It was up the Eiffel Tower. I will say no more, as it still makes me blush

                      Rhondda-Cynon-Taff Library Department (Overdue Books Division) can be relentless in their pursuit of the defaulters in their midst, or so I'm told

                          Oh, you guys!! Now I won't tell you what it was! I also had an out of body experience involving the Church of Saint-Sulpice, VIe arrondissement. I am now returning to coverage of TdeF.

                            Now I never knew that the Tuileries are called that because they used to quarry clay there to make roof tiles... You live and learn! I do anyway!

                            I've cycled up and down the Champs E. on one of their free 'vélib' bikes, it's all cobbled and flaming uncomfortable

                              ... except that Wiggo (like Simenon and Hergé and Hercule Poirot and Eddie Merckx) is in fact a BELGIAN - born in Ghent*

                              * and - actually - half AUSTRALIAN...

                                Didn't some nuns report that it was the first time they'd come that way?
