Exciting match. Good result. I felt that the clock showed 11pm for more than one minute.

I would definitely have stopped it at 5-1 in the fourth set. Rules is rules.

Lest we forget, a Jubilee year winner:

I stayed up all night making a flag with the Blue Peter symbol. It was exceptionally good but when she passed me in the veteran car she was as frosty as hell and didn't wave.

Now I get it. It was obviously Virginia Wade in the De Dion Bouton and the boat meant absolutely nothing to her. I do think though that Andy can win if he meets Betty Stove in the final.

(They should get rid of tonight's umpire. He was pure Hollywood.)

Can anyone explain equal prize money to me? Equal money for 3/5 of the work, or less?

Loved the US umpire, very droll.

When the change occurred in 2007, John McEnroe said:

"I think when you've got men and women playing at the same tournament, it is ludicrous to have a difference in pay. It would be setting an example to the rest of society in general to have equal prize money. There's probably no other sport, and very few professions in this world, where a woman can earn as much as a man."

Billie Jean King said: "Women's tennis is the leader in women's sports. Equal prize money is a no-brainer".

I do have an issue with money in tennis. It is that they all get paid far too much. However, I really don't see what the few male tennis players who oppose the differential - is that you Gilles Simon? - are arguing other than that they should get paid even more.

In the wider world, the amount of work is rarely linked to pay, except for the likes of those on the minimum wage. In 2009, as a member of Barclays' Asia-Pacific Advisory Committee, Francis Maude received payment of £9,230.23 after tax for 15 hours work.

EDIT - I have the sound turned down - who is the man in the bow-tie and gold-braid in the crowd? - the president of Baghdatis-land ?
The camera lingered on him, I thought he must be important

A pittance when you consider how much it costs to put on a kitchen-supper on these days and how much unspecified volunteering the man does as part of The Big Society

I think that was he - perhaps he'd popped in during a break in rehearsals for the Raynes Park G&S Society's new production of 'HMS Pinafore'.
