The main problem there was anthropomorphism which presumably was widespread. Quite what that says about the enthusiasm for taxidermy of that era is another matter. The post Victorians were as contradictory as those of any other period, including this one, but they could teach us huge amounts about social advancement, architectural solidity and clear-headed motivation.

The poor old penguin with his dead frozen missus reminds me of the joke in which three women answered a survey on what was the first thing that they said after sex with their partners.
