    Troubled Families

Good to see the news bulletins today highlighting examples of families that neglect their children despite the provision of large amounts of support at the taxpayers' expense. Also good that (according to the BBC) none of the Prime Minister's security team is to be disciplined: we wouldn't wish to encourage the culture of dependency, would we?

David Cameron and his wife, Samantha, left their eight-year-old daughter, Nancy, in a pub, Downing Street confirms.

Are we talking about the families whose household income being less than £20k a year means that they are not to be allowed by Theresa May to settle their spouses and offspring from abroad?

Shouldn't it be the job of government to ensure that no person below state pension age in this day and age is on income of less than £20k?

Or is this yet another instance of income redistribution in favour of those on Theresa May's kind of salary?

Well that was possible, Ams - but I've put it right now.

Agreed. And let me also say, I think it's the governmemt's job to bring poor families' children up too, and supply each poor household with a plasma TV.

The pub is (by my calculation ) about a mile and a quarter from Checquers. And they took two cars ...

If they'd walked it woudn't have happened.

In fact, if they'd only taken one car it wouldn't have happened.

It reminds me of the episode in Irène Némirovsky's Suite Française where a French family was desperately fleeing from Paris as the German army advanced. After stopping overnight, they set off again and on arriving at their country home they discovered they'd left the elderly parent behind .

As the man said, it's easily done ...

Not only do I ask why it should be but how could it be! Is it the job of government to ensure that almost everyone over the age of 18 is a taxpayer? And what on earth would it cost to do that (and where would the money come from?)...

And a married couple, with both working, on £40K?

As I understand it, the policy is to apply in the case of households on an income of less than £20 grand a year.
