Petroc's not a spy or anything. He had gone over to Zimbabwae to compere a classical music concert. He was doing some good! He doesn't deserve the treatment (arrests/ detention etc) that he got over there.

Sadly you read about this happening from time to time. This time its happening to someone we know (in a manner of speaking)
I wish him home and back on the Radio soon!

Petroc's lawyer needs to argue the opposite.

Sorry to be the bearer of further bad tidings:

Petroc Trelawny, the BBC music presenter arrested in Zimbabwe for failing to obtain a work permit to compère at a music festival, is facing prison after immigration authorities filed a new charge against him of lying on his visa application.

At least this article makes clear internal political issues involved

Well that story is just awful - it really seems to have become a blatant gesture of insult toward Britain and the BBC.
We can only say - stay strong Petroc, the world is watching...

Sorry - Good news instead BBC News- it is rather confusing , isn't it:

Zimbabwe police release BBC presenter Petroc Trelawny The BBC Radio 3 music presenter, Petroc Trelawny, has been released from police custody in Zimbabwe.

He was arrested at a music festival in Bulawayo for not having a work permit.

The same from me. I was hoping that it wouldn’t go this way….

And Peta Thornycroft and Aislinn Laing of the Telegraph, please keep us informed.

Unfortunately the BBC story does not contradict that from the Telegraph, which also reports him as being out of police custody. He still appears to be facing further charges.

This shows the latest as per Oddball's post. Petroc has openly expressed concern about some British press reporting. He is, for example, very happy with his hospital treatment and his legal representation in Zimbabwe, contrary to some newspaper reports.

To clarify one further point, the BBC is not taking a formal view. That is because he was not in Zimbabwe on its behalf and the British Embassy is working directly with Zimbabwe on this matter.

Our small informal website of radio listeners is of course completely independent of the newspapers, the BBC and the Government. I fully endorse the comments of other members in wishing Petroc well and hoping for a speedy and sensible resolution.

Yes, The Telegraph has done a better job than the BBC ...

It looks as if it is exactly what Petroc wanted - totally cleared so that he can return to the country again.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Nice to read his very positive comments about Zimbabwe too, not sour in the slightest tho it was, as he says, initially very frightening.

                              Welcome back, Petroc

I suspect the BBC self censored as anything it says seems in the past to have inflamed certain members of the ruling party and I presume they they didn't what to encourage the cat and mouse game.
