'Influence' and 'power' may have identical results in many circumstances. But they aren't the same thing. And in fact, looking back at the case, it seems to reflect (for better or worse) a point that I made earlier: that monarchy/royalty is on the side of the people ...

I have a confession to make. When I was writing my family history a few years ago, I discovered that one of my ancestors was heavily involved in the first Jacobite conflict and was sent to the Tower.

The Monarchy have NOTHING to do with 99.9 % of peoples lives.

On the recent "love me love me" tour they did, they visited Salisbury.
In the 3 hours they were here, they spent about 90 mins lunching at a military museum. About 30 minutes driving around. About 30 minutes looking at a "medieval" show thing ,(presumably to rekindle memories of their beloved feudal system) which had taken hundreds of people thousands of man hours to prepare, she unveilied a plaque in he own honour, and then they left.
What a joke.
If we really choose these people to "reign over us" perhaps we deserve what we get. Beats me.
