Yes the conclusion, and even Charlie's speech, were top-notch, to be fair ... pity about the 'concert', it was really quite appallingly dreadful.

But bloody Huw Edwards talking over the music at the end inc. the Beethoven. The BBC is decidedly staffed by philistines
Haven't seen Huw for quite some time. Does he still suffer from that skyhook thingy that lifts the corner of his upper lip from time to time when he speaks? - the one demonstrated on Rory Bremner?

Some 22 year old Sebastian getting it in the neck to try and get the channel back on schedule "No!! s*d this classical crap, Sebastian, cue Huw and roll the credits, Witchell says his b*lls are freezing off waiting to do the news"

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

AFAIK he's in a private orspittle, so he's probably soundproofed...

He's got it sorted, vis-à-vis a nice lie down with a whacking dose of malt!

Better an orspittle than a lickspittle!

The BBC CAN still do it !!!!!!!!! Top outside broadcast this evening ... on 6 music direct from DJ Gideon Coe's shed.
                  1st class public service broadcast.

Overall it lacked polish and professionalism that was present at the 2002 Palace concert. The ALW/Gary Barlow song is rather forgettable and the solists sang flat. The best contributors for me were Tom Jones and Alfie Boe/Renee Fleming's 'Somewhere'*. The evening was not Gary Barlow's finest hour (or three and a bit hours) - but will he ever be told that - the general population's tolerance of musical mediocrity will dominate.

                    * Oh, I forgot Grace Jones, proof of multitasking and what a lovely great big band behind her!

Probably the same one that cut off Rolf Harris, whose unaccompanied singing was one of the most tuneful contributions of the evening.

Coincidentally, my favourite nightcap: a mug of Horlicks and a glass of Jura ...

And so to bed ... another busy day tomorrow

[Surely some of you have to go to work tomorrow/today ... ? .]

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

No royalty here! I'll start work in an hour.

Please don't call; I'd like a nice quiet day.
