The bit about "Long to reign over us", or confounding our enemies' "knavish tricks"?

          ULTIMATE HORROR!

I was told today that Rolf Harris is painting a huge backdrop of Windsor Castle for the BAFTA Awards, and lurking somewhere next week is a royal tribute from -- yes! you've guessed it! ALAN TITCHMARSH!

The horror is upon us even before the actual date, when I shall be enjoying the rain in Great Langdale.

I wasn't responding particularly to your post but what possible misinterpretation? If I had used 'Royalty' instead of 'royalty' no one would have batted the proverbial eyelid so why should it be any different with 'People' or 'people'?

In fact, when one is referring to a populace 'the People' might appear to be rather more acceptable to many readers than 'the people' which could (and does) mean anything ( indeed one might be tempted to respond .. 'which people?')

Therefore I can only conclude that my use of the capital letter in the aforementioned case was perfectly valid, ahinton!

Oh don't worry, that's exactly what we get all the time from our English friends ...

humming Bruckner adagios the while, and dressed in Partick Thistle kit of the 1950s

I'll hold him while you find a reputational lawyer, Caliban

I think it's for the flippin' concert in front of 'Er Nibs's gaff

But the beach volleyball on Horseguards' gives me similar misgivings later in the summer (Phil Edinburgh will be alright though, peering at the participantes through the telescope doubtless mounted in the front bedroom )
