Scotty's infamous kowtowing and eccentric mindset are quite irrelevant, amsy ... it's the facts that are important!

I don't Beefy - my feet are both spectacularly broad & spectacularly flat - when I find a shoe style that fits and is comfortable, I buy as many pairs as I can afford

There was a very wide shoe with 'stack-heels' that came out soon after platforms. I expect you had a few pairs of those?

For a real hoot - try the letters between Jane Austen and the Prince Regent's Librarian on the niceties of Royal Dedications.
I love the idea of her being requested to write a Romance on the House of Saxe-Coburg...

Scared of heights, Beefy - the highest I could manage would be a Birkenstock

Miss Austen showed remarkable tact & firmness in declining both suggestions for future novels. I also liked Miss Bronte's (I've forgotten which one it was) explanation of why she couldn't write more like Miss Austen.

"Fanny Burney, afterwards Madame D'Arblay, was at an early age petted by Dr Johnson" The very idea of being petted by Dr Johnson at any age

Well, you already have, amsy, bless you ... and, yes, facts tend to be quite important however startling a revelation that may seem to the confirmed fictionist.
