The only sad figures I can see around here are the miserable killjoys who are so full of envy and bile that they would begrudge the nation a few days of celebration in the midst of gloom and recession, and refuse to admit that the Queen, and the Monarchy as a whole, are a tremendous asset to the nation.
Just got back from the Diamond Jubilee street party down in Bosham High Street. The rain held off, and a wonderful time was had by all, from toddlers to pensioners. Dixieland band playing, much wine and beer, food provided by all and sundry, and near neighbours getting to know each other. A really lovely occasion, which would not have happened were it not for the Diamond Jubilee.
I recorded the last few hours of the river pageant on Sky. Glad I didn't bother with the BBC's coverage.....

How very english ................. errr not
So let me get this straight, the ONLY reason you talk to your neighbours is because some old horsey woman has an anniversary ?
what a sad lot you are !!
and YOU mr Beefkipper have had enough to drink for one day , haven't you got a home to go to ?
What do you think this is ? a Nightclub
you'll be sorry in the morning
Me and Steve Ignorant are coming round your house in the morning with fried egg sandwiches and a dose of Merzbow ........ that'll teach you to get pissed in the name of the queen
This thread is hilarious! What a Great British ding-dong
I think the BBC will take some time to live down the tawdry commentary in their coverage. An early reference to HM was apparently to "HRH The Queen"
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
I thought it was more than slightly shambolic, amateurish and with the awful rainy weather, so totally British!! Made me feel proud .... bodes well for the Olympics!
