Well, watching the Thames pageant, a wonderfully colourful affair indeed, I'm so happy for the Queen. Britain at its best!

... well, Salisbury certainly seems to have changed from what I recall of the 1950s and 1960s - if you google Salisbury Heath Friary you may alight on the following instructive insights -

"A city in the south of England, it is like the South Central of Wiltshire, with daily shoot-outs and people selling crack cocaine on every corner. The main cause of this is the asian community in the Bemerton Heath suburb, which is approximatly 1 mile west of the city centre. There is also the are known as the Friary which is located in the city centre and has gained infamy for the amount of Gypsy's with ten-bedroom caravans selling Marijuana they grew in a windowbox.
The City Centre is best avoided on a tuesday and saturday due to the farmers market (below), mainly because on these days, the whole city centre is overrun by coffin dodgers and the senile, who decide to walk into every other person they see then collapse in a heap.
Apart from the above, Salisbury is a relativly attractive tourist village with a traditional farmers market selling overpriced, overrated and overthehill vegetables and a cathedral that has the tallest spire in europe and was built by eastern-europeans in 2005.

BadMan1 "Lets go score some rocks from the Filipinos in the Heath"
BadMan2 "nah blud they charge too much, jst get a korma insted
BadMan1 "Its lucky we live in Salisbury Wiltshire"
        BadMan 2 "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrratttt TING"

Just got back from the river, marvellous atmosphere - I think I saw Mr GG in the crowd. I called him, but he pretended he didn't hear me.

I caught the boat parade on the telly. It was fairly impressive but the sound on the TV does need to be turned down. According to the BBC presenters, it is absolutely fantastic and wonderful and fantastically the very best sight ever seen, just absolutely amazing, a wonderful astonishing and absolutely marvellous sight and they have never seen the Queen smiling so much ever in the whole history of her absolutely amazing reign.

Dimbleby (Richard that is)! thou should'st be living at this hour: the BBC hath need of thee: she is a fen of stagnant superlatives.

good grief teamsaint - that really is a truely sobering example of extreme royal selfishness!
and astonishingly, your article links to contemporary extreme wealth, violence and madness ....http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...an-rapper.html

bearing in mind this exceptionally anti social, regressive and utterly dismal news is in the torygraph...... it's 'a bit rich'..... and also very frightening, especially for women and children.

A truly wonderful occasion, marred only by the prattling presenters. Where do they find these specimens?

a bit of this would have been most appropriate don't you think ?

Mrs W had planned a garden picnic here, we're now having the picnic in the lounge, with the added spectacle of the Thames pageant on the widescreen TV!

We've flicked back and forward from BBC to Sky and settled for Sky, less prattling and more music. Academy of Ancient Music doing the business on Sky!

Apparently the 'hundreds' who were supposed to take part in 'the biggest anti-monarchy demonstration in the UK in generations' eventually turned out to be 'dozens' ...

                                http://uk.news.yahoo.com/anti-monarc...022822198.html

To be fair, though, it probably was the largest anti-monarchy protest in the UK in generations ...
