Of course I would believe you! You are extremely credible . I posted my response to P's before I read yours - & I have to say that you make the points I was gtrying to make much more effectively & with far greater elegance.

Who knows- if you can to read it, you might actually learn something.

                Well, I've learnt that
"Information regarding the success of The Prince [ie Duke of York] in this role [promoting UK trade] is scarce and much of it, for lack of explicit evidence, is anecdotal"
                I also learnt that -

"3. The intangible value of the Monarchy represents the value of the uplift to the economy attributable to the Monarchy. For example, ‘there was a £500 million uplift in leisure and tourism spending in 2011 linked to the Monarchy.’"
Unfortunately they didn't give any source for this statement, so it's difficult to know if one can believe it or not.

                and -
"4. Brand Finance researched all revenue streams and costs which we believed were impacted by the Monarchy. These include tourism, spending on merchandise, the impact of Royal Warrants, security, transportation costs etc.
                5. The valuation of Royal Warrants and Coats of Arms is based on notional Royalty Rates based on Brand Finance’s experience and analysis. The Royalty rates used in the calculation illustrate what could reasonably be charged for the use of the Warrants or Coats of Arms in our opinion.
                "

I also learned that the publishers of this 'report' - in reality a journal - are a company involved in 'brand valuation and strategy'. The articles would seem to be written by their staff. They don't give any sources for their figures, so it's difficult to give them any credibility.

It's acually very quick to read - one can ignore all the promotional stuff about the company's services. If that's your idea of a credible piece of research, Mr P, I don't think you'd even make the grade at Nut wo od University (plc)

Ah, yes, there we go, the old University "joke" yet again. It was mildly amusing about two years go. Still, if it makes you happy.

Anyway, you have taken about three paragraphs from an extensive report and, based on that, seen fit to dismiss the entire thing, conveniently ignoring all the parts of it that don't fit your argument. Never mind University, you wouldn't even get into the local primary school based on that analysis. Never mind the spelling mistake......

The parts of that "report" that don't fit Floss's argument in your view don't happen to fit any other argument either.

Which bits are those, then? Perhaps you would like to quote the parts that are credible research, rather than cobbled-together irrelevant statistics, biographies of the royal family, & colourful photographs?

                          THE GARDEN PARTY

                          The rich arrived in pairs
                          And also in Rolls Royces
                          They talked of their affairs
                          In loud and strident voices

( The Husbands and the Wives
                          Of this select society
                          Lead independent lives
                          Of infinity variety )

                          The Poor arrived in Fords
                          Whose features they resembled
They laughed to see so many Lords
                          And Ladies all assembled.

                          The People in Between
                          Looked underdone and harrassed,
And out of place and mean,
                          And horribly embarrassed

                          For the hoary social curse
                          Gets hoarier and hoarier
And it stinks a trifle worse
Than in the days of Queen Victoria,

                          When

They married and gave in marriage,
They danced at the County Ball
And some of them kept a carriage
AND THE FLOOD DESTROYED THEM ALL.

                          H Belloc.

                          Doesn't need updating!

That's what passes for "academic" research at the famous NU
where is the prof of "Logic" ?
