Anyway, speaking as a composer whose name is not Igor, I'll consider myself lucky to be able to fund me own funeral, let alone anyone else's!...

Oh yes, gullible is my middle name (can you have a middle name if you only have one to start with?). Look at that business with the gold ...
At least you can follow Elizabeth Schwarzkopff's exmple & make sure only your music is played at your funeral, then you can be sure that you will like it.

Which rest of it? The reference to Lizzie Blackhead? (thanks for correcting my spelling, btw). I did know that it wasn't her actual music what she wrote that she picked, but it was, as you say, her voice she chose. So I wasn't offering it as a literal example to follow, more an allusive one (if there is such a thing). As for not being able to enjoy - or at least be aware of - one's own funeral, I think some might question that assumption. I rather like the idea of having a funeral rehearsal (after all, people do it for weddings). Just imagine being able to listen to all those glowing tributes, not to mention the beating of breasts, hair tearing, & rending of clothes, and even perhaps several people dancing on one's grave.
(yes, it's definitely the heat)

That said, however, given that the prospect of a long ongoing series of tributes, a before during and after funeral series of programmes and all the rest of the accoutred paraphernalia (in the case of HM the Q, that is - not you!), I can only imagine that adding in a funeral rehearsal with all its media coverage before, during and afterwards would not be something of great appeal to you!
Anyway, now that Elizabeth non Schwarzkopf has only 3 and abit years to go before pushing Vicky non de los Angeles into the monarchistorical shade by clocking up the longest reign in British history, the oft sung phrase "long to reign over us" does appear to have acquired some credibility, so she may have quite a long time to go yet - and I don't see her dropping the reins of her reign while she's still alive unless she becomes physically and/or mentally incapable of continuing her duties as Britain's wealthiest public servant and someone has to make the decision to appoint someone else to take charge for the remainder of her life.
Oh - and by the way - I would certainly not wish for anyone at my funeral to beat their breasts, tear their hair or rip their clothes off, especially since that kind of behaviour would sit most uncomfortably alongside the extract from the finale of Mahler's Ninth Symphony that I would wish to be played during the service.Last edited by ahinton; 25-05-12, 17:39.
