When Madge visits, people on the receiving line are always told to say ma'am and not marm, and don't speak until you're spoken to. It's a good idea to bring a horse. if you have one ( Not indoors, of course )
One of my Zoo volunteer friends was holding a giant African land snail as the Queen came by. "Oh! How horrid ! " said her Majesty, "There are no horrid animals Ma'am' came the reply, that put her in her place !

I missed the name. I think he was a historian of some sort (or should I say 'an istorian'?).

I've just listened - not an istorian, but Geoffrey Robertson QC.

It may have been an attempt at a joke, but whether it succeeded in being one is open to question.

Aussie, might that account for it? Or the fact that he has a distinct tendency to pomposity and self-admiration. In my opinion.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I can't help but like Vivienne Westwood. Classic interview in which she somehow manages to say something offensive while being genuinely respectful. Great outfit too. - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18178987

Not just your opinion, Caliban, but don't tell Ferret that, or he'll kill me ...
