I've just been tidying my pin board and have uncovered a letter from TVL dated July 2010 . It thanks me for having let them know that I don't need a TV licence; they have updated their records and I won't hear from them again 'for almost two years' as they are unable to 'put a permanent stop on letters' ...
'We may need a couple of minutes of your time...' ... 'We may visit your home ... no more than a few minutes.'
Time is getting short to think of a new tactic. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

They never keep their written word - I've been told twice that I am the subject of a special report but so far I've not seen a copy thereof nor had my court summons - basically they are a commercial company lying thru their proverbial teeth - maybe for some of the conspiracy nuts on these boards they may say just taking after their main customer.

why 'wiild' ? (maybe having a sideswipe at some tho) - I get a missive from TV people about every 3 weeks - they cycle thro somewhat unpleasant accusations to outright threats - I return each missive to sender but since they neither give a freepost sticker nor a free phonenumber I cannot see why I should have to pay to stop them - to best of my knowledge only once in the 20+ years I've been at the one address has anyone come round to check - must admit those to IoM address do seem to have ceased - I presume the additional costs of policing under a different legal system make the issue of standardised 'threats under English law inappropriate.

I was once harrassed by these people for several months. Eventually I rang them up, and said I was holding my licence in my hand. It was only then that I realised they'd managed on renewal somehow to change my address to the lady next door's when I insisted they matched their records with the document I was holding.
Maybe they should be forced to provide a "non-licence" document free of charge to confirm that someone has declared that they do not have a TV, verified, together with a guarantee that they won't check again for 3 years.
Perhaps as some of us reach 74 we should apply for the free ones, yet state that we don't have a TV, just to impose another administrative burden on them in return for the aggro they seem to cause some others. For myself I'm not really bothered, as I do watch quite a lot, but I can see that for some people this is a pain, and the way things get done doesn't seem helpful.
I shall wait for someone to post newspaper cuttings of:
1. Dead people being asked for licence fee payments.
2. Blind people .. Ditto
3. Dogs and other pets being billed.
I'm sure there must be some - probably Daily Wail or Express, or a local paper.
