...and all has gone quiet around 4"33'
I don't think I could stand thirty three minutes and four seconds of silence...or does that include the repeats?

Same here, though slighly more selective.

I work up the New Posts list, from the oldest, and check any threads that I am already following or that look to have interesting titles (if not from Jazz, World, Proms or Choir, and if not started by certain antagonistic or incomprehensible posters ).

There's nothing quite like a bit of retrograde inversion, is there?

Exactly one of my points when I was arguing recently that serialism had influenced all music since Schoenberg

While strongly agreeing, I think Bryn is saying that joke has been played repeatedly on this and the old forum. Or maybe my irony bypass has just clicked in?

When I saw 4' 33" on a video the conductor mopped his head at the end of mvt 1 and there was polite laughter.

Was that written into the score? To provoke laughter? If it was, that's cheating!

...and probably long before forums or even the inter-web thingy were invented. But it's not so much the joke as the way you tell it.

Bruckner can frequently make 4 seconds seem like 33 minutes.

Quite the reverse in my case ... it never ceases to amaze me how Bruckner's relatively slow tread can make time fly past so quickly!
