And this is a genuine quote from the Mayor: “It’s hard to imagine mascots more in tune with the times.”

Is it available to Sky subscribers ?

actually (and i'm more than happy to remove this if it REALLY offends !)
it's just a whole big crock of shite isn't it ?

Lord Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic games, defended the mascots, saying they would inspire young people to engage with sport.
“We’ve created our mascots for children. By linking young people to the values of sport, Wenlock and Mandeville will help inspire kids to strive to be the best they can be,” he said.

        like I said ..................

          Now then, let's behave ourselves.

We can insult politicians, but let's try to be polite to fellow forum members, even if we sometimes have to agree to disagree.

what a cheek ....a totally grotesque article that is calum da jazbo! matched only by a minority of comments below it.

incidentally, i know just where that giant ampersand might be re-installed.

‘reminiscent of fish or a flock of birds’....and the morning after boris consumed absolutely vast quantities of 'all bran'!

coincidentally, i read about a new arts org, called 'tight modern', a miniature version of the famous london gallery by a similar name ...... not before time, the size issue regarding high profile contemporary art is finally facing some backlash. and only a £5.00 entrance fee, anyone can enter (an opportunity for various torys to exhibit their tiny brains)?

'peed it in blue' ....might double as a song title in a jubilympic 'jazz competition' serial apologist!

And London voted for this man ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Too true french frank but we need to get this into perspective ...

The turnout was 38% and the votes for Ken & Boris were ...

Name Party 1st Pref % 2nd Pref % Final Total
                  Boris Johnson CON 971,931 44.01 82,880 44.74 1,054,811
                  Ken Livingstone LAB 889,918 40.30 102,355 55.26 992,273

so it would be fair to say that London did not vote for him ... but quite a few Tories did

another interesting example of affiliation trumping rationality is the smoke screen that 'austerity' post the banking scandal has become the accepted response to giving all the cash to bankers and rich people ... with no sight of bank reform, stimulating demand or investment for growth and demand ..... the neo liberal agenda has seized the public agenda in the apparent cause of resolving the scandal ... the consequences of this are all about us ....

there is no rational or evidence based thinking in the coalition's strategy rather it is the Tory antipathy to public spending and the liberal dogma of orange book economics ..... these tribal battles between the posh schoolboys now threaten our health system, the extension of the disaster of rail privatisation to the road system and the punishment of the disabled for simply needing cash ....

we have no honour nor values in our politics just the braying of tribal bullies .... Lord Of The Flies without recourse to the Royal Navy ......
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I had to laugh when I saw this comment on another site:

A BBC spokeswoman said: "BBC News is committed to impartiality and we reject the materialistic dogma of the fascist Johnson and his assertions of bias, comrade."
The BBC has always been attacked for bias by both sides of the political spectrum (I recall that Alastair Campbell was particularly vitriolic about the BBC during the Blair years, especially after the BBC exposed his 'sexing up' of the Iraq dossier), which suggests that it is generally getting things about right.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

It's hard to believe that the BBC is somehow "leftist" when you see the whole brown-nose-witchellfest that is to come with the Jubbly ....... pass the sick bag

I would also say that if everyone is complaining then it's just what you want for your licence fee
