Look here, don't shout at me and don't call me sir!. Be careful, I know Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Judo and several other Japanese words.

It was an evil trick that I played on you! He (you were right, he is a man) does not exist!

I made him up because I was bored, and you fell right into my trap!

Winding everybody up, then when cornered dismissing what was posed as a serious point with a joke, then changing the subject.

It's a character trait. My dad, who could never afford to lose an argument, did this all the time.

I think it's the nature of traps that you don't notice them before you fall in, but surely after you've fallen in you'd notice it? Otherwise you'd just carry on as normal, which would make the trap rather redundant.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

You know Japanese words as well as "British" ones; well, good for you! I'm not "shouting" at you (it's very difficult to do that by means of a forum thread in any case) and I called you "sir" because that's what some people do call people who are "British through and through" - however, if you'd rather I didn't do so (as seems to be the case) then I shall cease and desist as well as apologise for any unintended offence thereby caused. Why I would need to be "careful" (which I was in any case trying to be) because you happen to know a few Japanese words, is, however, unclear to me. Rather more to the point, though, I note that you continue with your omission to attempt to account for the apparent discrepancy between your statements that, on the one hand, you regard yourself as technically 25% British and, on the other, that you regard yourself as "British through and through".

Are you suggesting that he is some kind of eye-level oven of the kind that one might expect to find integrated into a tall kitchen unit?

Anyway, leaving that aside for as long as it might deserve to be left aside, we're now past 100 posts and counting in a thread which scotty only initiated in order to send good wishes to everyone (or, at the very least, all Europeans) on Happy Europe Day; I don't think that, by "everyone", he had any thought or desire to exclude those who aren't happy, those who aren't happy being Europeans, those who aren't happy about Europe, EU, the Eurozone or any combination of the three, still less those who appear to be technically 25% British while at the same time being British through and through - so why can't we just accept the motivation for his greeting in the spirit in which it was presumably meant and then move on?

Difficult to shout in a forum 'in any case' - actually, upper-case is shouting.

Anyway, being British is hard to put into words. But one thing is certain, if you don't want to be British, you don't have to be.

The %ages and the 'through and through business' is oxymoronic, designed to emphasise the point that 'British' is a civic, cultural and voluntary concept, not racial, ethnic or religious.
