    Radio 3 Portraits' Day ???

You have got to be kidding me!

This isn't a radio network anymore, it's a freakin' theme-park dreamed up by a bunch of the most feeble mediocrities.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

I rather expected it to be portraits of Katie Derham and other presenters.

that's next year - once they've dispensed with the serious music and the presenter becomes the main focus - I guess Kath Jenkins might then star as featured artist of the week in her role as major opera star - maybe the ROH is allow a special gala concert tho I undrstand she needs a microphone for anything larger than a clothes closet.

Sounds so much like 'a closed closet'. What a smashing idea, with a key, that might just go missing!

            It's a shite idea, isn't it

            What's the point?!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Nothing wrong with a few portraits

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

(we seem to have "serious" music back again ? and I thought R3 was marginalising Jazz http://www.jazzscript.co.uk/books/freewilmer.htm)

Mr.Caliban, I do like your prosaic tones!! I've a good mind to head over to the National Portrait Gallery this after and blow a big raspberry over one of Sean Rafferty's links. I hope that have a legion of buckets and mops to clean up all the gush he'll emit on to the gallery parquet.

The wife of the late Max Jaffa performed Elgar's Sea Pictures in Scarborough with a microphone.

Well, I only listened to the early morning bit (before 9am) but it seemed to be giving the presenters an excuse to broadcast some pretty obsure but worthwhile music.

Which is what I thought many boarders were in favour of...
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I think Copland dreamt up the Lincoln guff
the second half was Elgar guff

Another promotional event aimed at the media. Doesn't mean that during the course of an entire day it couldn't produce some extremely interesting material - but what's the point if only Radio 3 listeners take any notice?

Alternatively, it could broadcast the best material in a single programme - or even in one of the occasional, now long-forgotten, 'evenings'.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
