#44 yes, handsomefortune that's the portrait of Dame Ethel. They just haven't shown the whole thing but she is seated at a piano.

Can anyone help with what I think is a Windows problem? When I type a link to a message Windows tells me my answer is too short and won't accept it.

I've tried clicking on 'restore link' three times, but it refuses to.

I had this happened to me a few times, saly. Not sure if this is your problem, but I found that this message appeared when I included my reply to a post inside that poster's quote, or one of his or her quotes. It's easily done: the server seemed to think I hadn't written anything!

Same here salymap and I think that S_A has the answer - always worth checking if this is what you have done accidentally, then cutting you new contributuion and pasting it outside the final [/QUOTE]

Thanks both, but then why does a message come up in the bottom left hand corner saying click to Restore, but nothing happens when I click it?

            Phenomenal pic, that!!! Thanks!

And I echo the sentiment above: great thread, sals!

One of my favourite portraits of all time is Arnold Newman's of Stravinsky (influenced my own photo taking: the subject doesn't always have to be in the centre... Far from it!):

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I'm waiting for the 'prop' to slip and the piano lid to fall on Stravinsky.

Not that I want it to.

that photo of Satie and Debussy is rather surreal isn't it - has it been 'altered' in some way? what is that strange looking waxwork between the composers? if it's a reflection in the mirror why can't we see the back of it close to ?

I thought it was a sort of classical bust on the mantlepiece.... But the dressing gown sort of affair plus locket round the neck do look rather real. It appears to be wearing some sort of helmet though... But in the mirror behind it one can just see the top of Igor's bald pate, so I thought he'd been cleverly using the bust on the mantlepiece to take a 'mirror' shot without appearing in it himself...

Very good, pans! Thank you. Hadn't thought Buddha, I must say, but it's much as I thought

This thread has succeeded in making me cross, since firstly I have spent some time attempting to upload images of favourite musicians, but have not succeeded. Suspect the reason is that the images are copyright protected.

Secondly everytime I open my internet browser, I go through a shall I/ shan't I post routine. Since the thread has been broadened with reference to Buddha, to stop my suffering I am posting a link to a TV magazine clip, a behind-the-scenes view of my favourite soprano, Carmen Monarcha. Just the first minute or so give a glimpse of a truly lovely person:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Looks like the guy on the left (satie?) is smoking his own collar.

Debussy. I thought that too, John - thanks for pointing it out.
