If Pee actually listened to Radio 3 a little more, he would undoubtedly be quite familiar with Llŷr Wiliams's performances. However, on the basis of his many Radio 3 broadcasts, I will not be rushing to get my hands on his Beethoven survey.

What is it about the phrase " The Times Breakthrough award" that makes me feel so uneasy ?......................

It reminds you of Mummy's syrup of figs?

Traversal?! Most pianists simply play them, surely.

Thank goodness that Sky Arts picked up the South Bank Show when it was so unceremoneously dumped by ITV.
Possibly becuase the format had got a bit stale? (Not to mention MB). Perhaps BSB should have come up with a new idea. (apologies if it's been said already - just back from 12 days in Istanbul , so I'm having to catch up)

Not much chance of them remaining hidden with the Pee on the case

Of course, once one has stumbled across them, there are plenty of opportunities to stumble again, and again, and again .........

As I have moaned about before, when I was daft enough to stump up for a Sky subscription, (just to get what was then Artsworld), Sky made a right mess of their several transmissions of Berio's Outis (the broadcasts 'stumbled' every 20 seconds!). I would happily pay for a commercial DVD or the recording, but there is none. Perhaps some day a television broadcaster will make a proper job of transmitting the video recording.

If every BBC viewer withheld their licence fee each time there was a technical fault on that channel, they would run out of money very quickly. Anyway, technology has undoubtedly moved on since the Artsworld days.

Interesting to see that the BBC has no qualms about publicising these awards.

And if you miss them you can watch them again and again.

Now I know what you are going to say, no broadcaster can broadcast arts programmes without repeats, but Sky Arts do seem to have a core repertory that gets repeated very frequently.

A larger repertoire than that served up on the BBC though? For approx 2 quid a month, or whatever the allocation is to the channel out of the total subscription, you'd be hard pushed to better it.

The output of BBC4 and BBC HD already give me more interesting things stacking on my PVR than I can get round to watching. Coupled with the fact that I'd rather listen to music than watch it, I have never had the slightest temptation to get Sky. Best televisual thing I ever did was switch from Virgin to Freeview HD
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

as Tommy Cooper said, "It's not the principle, It's the money ".
Although in this case its the principle.
I have had a Sky Subscription in the past, but the thought of my money going to the SKY/Murdoch empire sticks in my throat.

But, as Panj told people, I want everything for free, so perhaps I am not a good judge in these matters !

Ah, so when was it that Sky Arts successfully broadcast Berio's Outis without the regular stutters every 20 seconds?
