What am I doing here? Having a conversation with someone who uses the phrase "the likes of" for starters. You are quite right, though: I have no interest in the Arts whatsoever.

I thought that this forum (or is it a board? - I can never remember which is which) was about anything not covered by other fora (or boards) - as there is one dedicated to the Arts I would think that this board (or forum) was the very place for someone not interested in the arts. That's presumably why you are always telling us about the Sky Arts.

Which raises a question (in my mind, at least) - why are you constntly starting threads about Sky Arts, when it's quite clear that many members wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, others aren't interested, & only a few actually subscribe (so presumably don't need to be told how wonderful it is)? Is it tom make the rest of us envious, to tout for subscriptions, or simply trolling?

Ooops - this is a follow-up to my previous post

"Only a few actually subscribe"? Most people I know subscribe to Sky, not just the musically interested. Try counting the number of Sky dishes in any chosen road.
Apart from the choice of channels, it is such a convenient method of receiving programmes.

Will the Murdoch-bashers feel differently if their minority stake in Sky is sold? Is the ownership of a company that important? (I am reminded of the people who knock on my door or leap on me in Marks and Spencers and try to get me to change electricity company. When I say I am happy with NPower, a common response (obviously scripted by Head office) is to say that I am buying from a foreign company. "Come to us and get British electricity" is something I've heard many times. My usual response, which shows up the silliness of their argument, is to say that I must rush because my VW is parked on a yellow line.)

As I said in a previous post, it's not just the ownership, but the aggressive tactics of the company. If NI/Murdoch is a minority shareholder then they presumably have little say in how the company operates & the tactics will continue if their shares are sold. The Murdoch press will possibly cease to aggressively promote BSB - but I doubt it; they will still hate the BBC.

                Yes

I realised some time ago that he's actually Kelvin Mackenzie - sticking it to the Reithians online.

                      For oral consumption only...? .
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

on my preferred footy forum , there is a board called "The Muppet Show" where this sort of thing is allowed.........but it is frowned upon on the main board. Disgraceful !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I think that this letter sums up my dislike of BSB (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...rupert-murdoch). The 'Group director of corporate affairs' claims that people make a 'choice' when they sign up to BSB. In the case of many sporting events I would believe that people make a 'choice' only when those event are also available on, say, BBC or ITV. There is no choice when there is only one option.

But then, capitalism has always claimed to be about 'choice', when in fact it's about getting rid of the competition & creating a monopoly.
