TBF, the weather up there is probably more suited to Prof Pongoo than Libdems ............
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

And the LibDems polled more votes than the Greens ... . How significant is that?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

              Either:

!) Kiss goodbye to the world, or

              2) Move to Brighton

                Democracy rools ...

I'm sorry about the result, ff (and the penguin, but you have to remember that Edinburgh folk are strange beings).

Anyway, if you can't beat them, join them. Why not stand for mayor?

The one person who had already declared he'd stand, even before the result, is a friend of mine. I was his election agent when he stood for parliament in 1987! I think he would make a great mayor - what I don't like is the fact that the position involves having fingers in every council pie. There's safety in numbers: 68 elected councillors, each with their own mandate, and one person with his separate mandate doing a Boris and popping up everywhere.

(Only Leeds left to perhaps keep us company.)

If he was a penguin dressed as a candidate he would definitely get my vote. (I like penguins).

I am so sorry to hear this news. Looking on the bright side, Eric Pickles has advised that you will now be able to trade on an equal basis with New York, Frankfurt and Milan. The power of the individual!

Thank you for your good comments am51. I don't have a swing-o-meter and rely purely on natural methods like tea leaves, seaweed and the behaviour of mountain goats on the night.

I have no problems with the penguin defeating the Greens if he was supporting policy to tackle climate change.

It's many years since I last ate one. Do they still make them?

You could always try Lidl. They probably have an interesting range of sandwiches.

NEWS FLASH - Green candidate is currently in 3RD PLACE in the counting for London Mayor.

They're protected species, aren't they? Anyway, they'd taste very fishy, I'd imagine.

To see where the electioneering penguin escaped from, see here:

interestingly, not that long ago I was in a bargain store(might have been Wilkos) and i was munchy. Looked at the sarnies, and they had a sell by date weeks ahead !!!!!!!!!

                              How does that work?
I didn't buy, needless to say, and made do with a sack of tortilla chips. Or something.

Oh dear, back in fourth now. But: The Greens have beaten the Lib Dems in at least five London constituencies. Mine wasn't one. UKIP are doing badly in London. If we pretend that the Conservatives and Labour don't exist, it is an interesting democratic race.
