This always reminds me of the Not the Nine O'clock News sketch about allowing diabolists into the CofE

Labour might have "lost" the election but the Tories definitely didn't "win" it. It's one of the basics of dealing with people with abusive habits that you shouldn't facilitate their abusive behaviour ! junkies, alcoholics and tories alike

the point (again) about tuition fees is that Clegg behaved dishonestly and displayed behaviour that makes him totally untrustworthy (as later events have proved) what he completely fails to grasp is that he stood for honesty and difference yet became as dishonest and duplicitous as both the labour and tories ........ which is a sad thing indeed ......... best thing would be to get rid of him as quickly as possible

I don't think I do - other than to reinforce my point that when difficult choices have to be made there will be ... difficulties, not all of them satisfactorily resolved.
History would have been on a Lab/Lib Dem coalition's side too although the previous one was a pact, and it didn't last too long, something we can only wish for in the present circumstances
I don't think that history is on any 'side': it's just what happened then. Not a unique situation, I'm sure when the LibDems got too big for their boots in Northavon and became the largest party. Tories and Labour thought the solution was to bury the hatchet between them: the Tories ( the second party) offered Labour the chairmanship, Labour accepted it and they went on to form the ruling group. Nothing 'historic' about the LibLab partnership.

MrGG - practical politicians don't have 'belief systems'. If people could get that idea into their heads, they wouldn't be quite so disillusioned ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It would make a nice change to actually have people with imagination (and I meet many of them every day !) in charge for a change........
I'm just about to print out my "NONE OF THE ABOVE" extension to go on my postal vote ! (that's probably now a crime against the state so if I vanish you will know why !!) maybe I should finish the symphony first ?

That hasn't always been the case. Clement Attlee and others certainly did have belief systems and against enormous odds (and opposition from interested groups) the post-war Labour government was able to implement policies according to those beliefs. Perhaps the decline of the main political parties has resulted from the perception that none of them is really interested any longer in pursuing policies based on strong and clearly articulated principles, only in a kind of managerialism which panders to powerful interests.

Here, I kid you not, are my five constituency candidates for the London Assembly. So which one would you choose?

It all seems like a bad slightly psychedelic dream.

democracy alive and well judging by the number of views, Lat !!

And I thought Salisbury was bad.

We usually get a choice of a Tory Doctor, and Libdem Doctor, and whoever's turn it is for labour.
Ukip are regarded as lefty loonies hereabouts.
It would be a waste of petrol if I couldn't just walk down to spoil my ballot paper.

Aren't Ed Miliband and the rest of the Labour Front Bench 'posh' boys and girls as well ... ?

They all sound 'posh' to me ... apart from Ed Balls who just sounds silly.
