On the contrary, it's up to us all to do our best to use the language well.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

In all walks of life, someone takes responsibility for setting standards. Otherwise we have different forms of anarchy. Linguistic anarchy many not be life-threatening, but it certainly has its drawbacks.

                ... ah, benevolent autocracy!

It certainly solves lots of problems

(Tho' I feel a Johnsonian swell of revolt might ensue. You know what liberals are like... )

No, I think it should be I (grammer). Better still, let's all take turns!

in that case in mangerton's defence, (and since i can't see a sp), but most of all because 'taking turns' is at least a useful suggestion as it's democratic

Sigh. I didn't think I'd have to spell this out, but it would seem that Molesworth (qv) is not as well known as wot i thort he was. (grammer and sp again), or in fact NOT "as any fule kno".

not to worry - feel free to stretch out now, make up for lost time serial apologist! (did you watch 'world in action' btw? 55 yrs up, if my math serves me correctly, glad it's not plural anymore tbh, my sums are very cramped).
