From a Presto email received this morning (GMT): "Blomstedt's first complete Bruckner cycle was originally issued on the Querstand label in 2012, and is now available digitally for the first time."

I was unaware that CDs and SACDs did not carry digital recordings.

A number of 'private hire' cars around here carry the legend 'Advanced Bookings Only', meaning of course that, as they are not Hackney Carriages under the law, they are not allowed to accept passing fares.

Thinking this was an example of 'greengrocer's apostrophe's' I felt it should be 'Advance Bookings Only', as the bookings are not themselves 'advanced' but are made 'in advance'. What do you think?

I'd have been tempted to phone them and ask why they no longer take basic bookings.

This reminds me that I once had cause to use a removal company which styled itself "Advance Removals" - which I suppose they were in the sense that it had to be booked in advance.

'Shockin' ignorance' as Yasha says in 'The Cherry Orchard'. It's no wonder so many people give up trying to understand classical music when it's so misrepresented.

We need some education. Come back, Percy Scholes!

It's been the case for some time that my local pharmacy has had a sign up saying 'sorry for the inconvince' - but today there was another sign up saying 'sorry for the inconvience'!

And from the BBC news website: "In 2014, another toddler - dubbed the "fence baby" - uninvitingly crept onto White House grounds."

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It would seem that it's just a case of getting there one stage (and one letter or two) at a time, then...

                        .

... the news bulletins on radio 3 this Tuesday morning as read by Neil Nunes - repeated references to the 'instalment' of prepayment meters. I think 'installation' was what was meant...

I had a letter from TV licensing telling me they'd transferred my licence to my new address and the old address had been 'demolished' from their records.

Why must a preview always be described as a 'sneak preview'? I suppose it's the pejorative implications of that adjective that irritate me.
