On today's lunchtime news (BBC1) -

"Teenagers over the age of 12 will be expected to take the jab".

I guess a 12-year-old teen would have to be at least 25.

I doubt very much that it is 'taught in schools', but it is how some people use it and others hear it and copy it. Language is how it's used, not a collection of rigid laws. It may be 'non-standard' (i.e. minority usage, dialectal) but language will continue to be useful in communicatin, however many non-standard usages are spawned.

That may be so, but the Italians and Spanish have managed to evolve languages without nearly so many ifs and buts, and without such totally irrational spellings as the English language has managed to gather over the centuries. Some describe it as the "richness" of the English language. I'd call it utter chaos.

OED (a descriptive, not a prescriptive, dictionary) saith: "transitive (in passive). "Originally and chiefly U.S. To be moving in a specified direction or towards a particular place, person, or thing; to be moving or going." First example in 1831 ('The ship was headed for Nukuhiva'), the latest 2007 ('Jerome..talks to me about where I'm headed and what a wonderful place it is').
