"You just can't underrate what kind of a blow this is..."

The speaker was referring to Beethoven's deafness on Composer of the Week today.

The presenter on Radio 4's "Four Thought" -- " If you're a regular listener to this show it's probably fair to say you're not adverse to a bit of serendipity" -- delivered in tones of such languid entitlement as to cause one to doubt the benefit of an expensive private education...

Not my copy, the image is from the Internet. My copy is probably as old as yours but inherited, though I frequently dipped into it in my childhood.

Can there be any worse criticism than the adverse kind?

Before you buy it, there it will be in the supermarket refrigerated cabinet, sometimes in a box, sometimes in a bag, ready for you to buy it :-). Then it becomes post-bought frozen food.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I don't understand the 'pre-bought' bit (but like FF's take on it) but was the box and bag to do with excess packaging as a matter of interest?

I just love the calm, detached way in which you delivered that explanation, french frank!

There used to be an ad on TV which went the following way:

"Domestos kills all known germs... dead"

My dad used to say, "Well, it's good to know they're dead!"

But it was always the unknown ones that gave me sleepless nights.
