I always thought the Apostrophe Protection Society was started by Keith Waterhouse long before 2001. It was part of his column in, I think, the Daily Mirror. Were there two?

A small gem from Edward Seckerson in the latest Gramophone, p.13:
" It cannot be underestimated what he [Muir Mathieson] did to ameliorate the stigma of commercialism and involve the great and the good of music in the creative process of making movies." (My itals)

Sloppy thinking on top of sloppy vocabulary: isn't he writing the piece because he thinks too many people do underestimate what MM did?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

A horribly common error among broadcasters, I find.

Not just broadcasters, it is tiresomely common among journalists. I think it's one of those cases where an initial error got repeated so many times so quickly that it assumed normality.
