french frank, we can only hope (pray even) that mr sawyer doesn't get anywhere, but glad 'the guardian' printed that, having listened to snippets on 'the media show' about the new dg, and what the beeb are looking for (supposedly). it left me wondering what media sins an 'international outlook' hope to hide?

judging by the applicant linked, the second wave of the beeb 'excelling' themselves (again) is upon us, by the looks french frank ....what a(n awful) shame!

incidentally, is rupert sawyer the rosey cheeked chappy in the big picture? or the dodgey security guard, waering dark glasses in the small pic? it's hard to tell who might be the unlucky owner of the mentality exhibited in the application for dg (linked).

whoever he is, he reads a bit too much like the r4 wreckers, when they joined the beeb (although tbf he wasn't a pornographer). talk of changes in approach on r4, in terms of 'chacking everythin ander the pond wa'er, seein what cams up to the surface for ayer'. AND, 'anti elitist' too (of course), yet probably live in gated communities, and 'send kids to florida regular, for a disney 'top up', sam culcha'. does that pass for 'internationalism' perhaps?

Bit of an unfortunate photograph of his lordship ("The BBC? It's mine, all mine, I tell you!")
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Surely the Sawyer application is just a jokey dig at BBC culture and obsessions, or am I missing something (I admit I've no idea who he is)?

yes, but did the lord mention his own salary/pension, and clearly outline his plans for beebs future calum da jazbo?

since anyone can apply to be beeb dg aeolium - agreed, 'the guardian' is having a larf imo - but might not be larfing - IF someone quite similar to this 'stranger' gets the job of dg. (as similar seems to have happened on r4.... minus porn 'experience and knowledge' obviously), it's a stressful times for anyone who remains loyal to psb values as we have known them in the recent past).

Well, the standfirst reads: "With my knowledge of cheap shows, special interest websites and tech gadgets, I'm well equipped to [d]o the job part time."

[I'm not sure that an application published in a Guardian column by the author of The Secret Diary of Rupert Sawyer would be considered as having been submitted in due form.]

You started it ff! It's a regular satirical column on media matters, as seen by the CEO of Channel 8

Rupert Sawyer is chairman, CEO and chief creative officer of the Channel 8 Television Corporation, a clear 3 better than its nearest terrestrial rival

For those members who are easily confused by The Guardian, I would point out that Mrs Cameron's Diary is also a satirical column & is not actually written by the lady herself.

I did start it, Ossie! I thought it was quite funny (the Ld Patten pic carefully chosen, of course) though I confess I was not acquent with the Guardian's regular satire (I didn't know they went in for it ).

the lord's tracking sawyer down as we type - he's the man for the dg job! i wish sawyer every success, especially if he can get chris morris onboard for ch 8 tv. (i was going to post a link to ch 8 tv, but it didn't work in preview unfortunately...it's absolute carp, (even) worse than sky, or tabloids ).
