Have you seen the list of channels they offer? One or two missing I think.

Do we have to wait for the brass final before we get back on topic???

Well, at a very quick glance, both Sky Arts Channels for a start, and Sky Atlantic, none of which I would wish to be without. Apart from all the other Sky stuff, I'm sure there are others, but I really can't be bothered trawling through the list.

I agree with Richard Tarleton:- this is getting really boring. I simply commented that I had "Sky plussed" Young Musician, and lo and behold, Mr GG took that as an opportunity to indulge in yet another irrelevant jibe. It really is becoming extremely tedious.

Getting back to the subject of the thread, if I may, I had a go at watching YM earlier, but gave up very quickly I'm afraid. The whole presentational style really got on my wick.

I will try again, particularly with the woodwind and brass semi-finals, but I don't know whether I'll be able to stick with it for a whole 90 minutes. I lasted about 10 this afternoon.....

It is a shame to see such a previously well produced and seriously intentioned programme being spoiled in this way.

Sorry V, broke off for supper and a glass or two - see Mr Pee's below. There are also numerous foreign channels available, all regional variations of BBC (useful if you live in Wales and don't like rugby ) - in other words, choice.

Yes, that's quite a good idea, actually, MrGG. I'm sure others would find that more interesting too
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

... I quite welcome it - I sigh with relief - when, looking through my Radio Times, I come across an evening where "there's nothing worth watching". It's only then that I find the discipline to get down to some serious reading or music. I suspect if I had one of these packages providing endless goodies on the telewele I wd spend far too much time glued to the screen!

There is not enough time in the day for all the normal things I want to do PLUS extra telly.

Indeed I do those too - and I practise the guitar in the evenings (sometimes while Mrs T is trying to watch the tv...). But there's a lot more choice on Sky. People object to it for wholly irrelevant reasons. Today I could have (had I noticed it was on) recorded a performance of Iphigenie en Tauride in HD....

it makes her wide open to the charge of being the beneficiary of nepotism.

Well spotted. It just makes the whole thing so dismally depressing. 'Thing' being classical music. I'm sure that it went on in 'the Good Old Days' (whenever they were) but it didn't seem so rampant then.

But then I'm feeling a bit maudlin as the only greengrocer in the town has just closed after 20 years of trading. Malvern District Council....you are killing the town. Sorry..bit off-topic.

I'm impressed. Last year the Daily Mail named her as number 8 in Britain's top 50 most powerful posh people under 30. Yes, she's published a novel too. Her mother, agent Gillian Hill ...
