    Remember?
I wonder whether CB-H has declared her interests in writing promotional material to the BBC? One would like to imagine that in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest the BBC would prevent one of its presenters from broadcasting on a concert in which their clients were appearing.

I have a recording of the piano stages and final of the BBCYM contest which Freddie Kempf won (great Rach Pag Variations - can't remember the year) and likewise, it's bliss compared with the soft-focus life-style gush that characterises the current coverage (I saw the first bit of the prog on it's early morning re-run.)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I should make it clear, perhaps, that that's what I was referring to as 'promotional material', plus the Breakfast tweets ...

I'm impressed. Last year the Daily Mail named her as number 8 in Britain's top 50 most powerful posh people under 30. ("Bewilderingly multi-talented, the St Paul’s Girls’ School old girl is also an actress, violinist, presenter on The Culture Show and journalist. There’s nothing she can’t do." )
Yes, she's published a novel too. Her mother, agent Gillian Hill ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Having just caught up with Young Musician 2012 on the iPlayer I must admit there is just about enough uninterrupted piano playing to form an opinion. The standard was very high indeed. I particularly liked the Morel Etude and the Dutilleux piece.

... I watched this in part - enough to be terminally frustrated by the presentation, and enormously impressed by the talent on offer. Like Pianorak, I thought the Dutilleux was particularly good.

What made it sad for me was the mis-match between the crass trashy populism of the presentation - not just Clemency 'Burton' Hill, but the whole BBC schmaltzerei ladled around it - on the one hand : and on the other hand, the commitment and serious musicianship of the pianists, which shook me out of my middle-aged lethargy to realise how really wonderful they were. More of them - less of the presentariat, that's what I want...

Oh God.....I am certainly not on the verge of abandoning Sky. I might abandon BBC Young Musician though.

Why do you feel the need to derail a perfectly reasonable thread with yet another childish jibe?

                      Give it a rest, please.

Maybe for mrP's benefit I should confine my contributions to a detailed Schenkerian Analysis of the music played then .........................................

are you following me at the back ?

                                This really is getting boring.

Not for the first time, and almost certainly not for the last - were it not for the existence of Sky, some of us would not get a digital TV or radio signal at all. It's nothing to do with what you think of News Corp, or the Murdochs, or phone hacking - it's to do with getting a picture on your TV screen, or digital radio signal, or not. It's satellite or nothing. There is no longer an analogue signal (which was crap anyway), and it's impossible to get Freeview or cable. Sky is it. So to everyone who has a choice, fine (except that without Sky, you won't get Sky Arts or Sky Arts 2). If you live in a rural area like this, there is no alternative. It's a technical solution to a technical problem - with added benefits.
