My first Sandown has just won! I just picked by names, didin't realise they were the favourites at tiny odds, ditto my first Haydock selection!! Beginner's luck. Not going to watch any more as gardening needs doing and I didn't put any money on.
I picked: Tickled Pink/Windhoe/Norgys/Declaration of War at Sandown and at Haydock, Louis the Pious/Midnight Soprano/Fennell Bay/Lily Rules. If anyone is watching C4 can they let me know later this evening if any others did ok? Thanks.

Just the one winner today, Integral at 4/1. Disappointing but better than nothing! Not enough for a boxed set this week.

I see, on your selections, that Ryan Moore is the one you back when he's riding, is that, the jockey, rather than the horse the main decider? Like Lester Piggott always riding the winner? (forgive basic question, I know little about racing) I might have a proper go (with money!) next time.

Yes, you're correct, Anna, though it's a frequently a combination of horse/rider/trainer that decides me more than form. Ryan Moore is my favourite Flat jockey, guaranteed to give value for your money even when he loses because you know he does his best. It's often a plus when he has chosen to ride one horse over another. Other great jockey/trainer combos are Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon, William Buick and John Gosden. Always worth following and rarely let you down.

Everybody has ther own view on this, of course.

It will always be the July Meeting to me - this sad obsession of racecourse executives to apply the epithet " festival" - to every meeting of more than a day or so is a bore .

Better to have done it as a single £10 win as per my normal practise then I would at least have made £50. These multiple bets are fine if they come off but are bookies benefit when you have just one winner. Integral was the horse I'd had in mind since Wednesday.

Look at this way, ER, we did better than the C4 pundits who can't even tip a cabbie.

Very true,the odds are stacked in favour of the bookies with accumulators and the like.
