Wisely didn't put up my choices this week as I scored another blank. Much as I love the Cheltenham Open meeting it's always a punter's graveyard.

I seem to have better luck at the Hennessy meeting at Newbury (on November 30 this year) and if Tidal Bay takes part he wins.

        Sunday at Cheltenham .

        2.10 Raya Star
3.15 Thomas Edison and Ifandbutwhynot each way
3.50 Carningli ( but I shall be looking very closely at Red Sherlock in the paddock and if he is fit he could beat the selection)

Back on the winning streak again - can it be because I don't post them up on here?

Anyway, got one winner Gevrey Chambertin at 13/2 so an extra £75 in the wallet (£45 profit).

Superb run by Cue Card in the Betfair Chase - must now be a real contender for the King George on Boxing Day. Long Run has had his day and should now be retired after coming a dismal 4th. Perhaps Tidal Bay should as well. It's such pity to see horses who have done so well in the past now running sub-standard races.

Tidal Bay hacked up at Wetherby last month . 3 miles round a now tight Haydock was never going to suit him . He will win another good race or two this winter I am sure .

The really bad run was by reigning GC champ Bob's Worth. Long Run didn't run badly in fourth- He isn't as quick as once thought and loses ground by moderate jumping .He has always been enormously overrated after being the most fortunate winner of a GC in living memory . Kauto Star had been ill and was not 100% as shown by the two spankings the old boy gave Long Run that autumn ,Denman was in decline and Imperial Commander went wrong when cantering three out.

Cue Card is a very good horse but one is simply left in even more awe of Sprinter Sacre.

Spot on about Long Run. I'm a big Tidal Bay fan - got me good money in the past - but he's now 12 and I hope you're right about him having another win or two in him. I wish he'd been aimed at the Hennessy next week instead.

I suspect Nicholls wanted him to go there too. Lexus and then the Irish Gold Cup in Feb followed by the Whitbread ( whatever it is called nowadays would be my plan for the old boy though he stays so well nowadays I could see him lobbing around at the rear of the Welsh National field and come through to win it on the bit .

Well I managed to find Spring Heeled today (fiver e/w@12/1)pin in the paper method.

Can any of our experts see further than Bobs Worth or Silviniaco Conti in the Gold Cup tomorrow?
Are you there Alison or Pet ?

Difficult to see beyond the front two and unoriginally I am sticking with Bob.

Surely Paul Nicholls luck has to change and so its Calipto in the 1.30 for me.

Goodness me, what an afternoon of drama.

I hope Pet enjoyed his afternoon.

Calipto very unlucky as was travelling so well before losing his tack.

It seemed certain that the two favourites would dominate the Gold Cup finish before they suddenly tied up at the same time.

A few too many casualties human and equine to truly enjoy the festival this year.

An enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine but have to agree that there have been too many casualties. A few more today including a bizarre incident which hospitalised jockey, Daryl Jacob. I actually had my binoculars trained on the horse as it reared and fell sideways into the rail and some photographers so had a great view.

Had no winners, alas. Hoping for better luck in the Midlands Grand National tomorrow.

The four days are tiring but thrilling but despite the weather rather a grim day today - all those jockey injuries and poor Raya Star a horse I liked a lot died in the last .

Also we lost the brilliant Our Conor on Tuesday too .

I backed 9 seconds this week so not good on the punting front . Only Tammy's Hill in the Foxhunters won for me today .

A lousy Gold Cup too - the first three are a stone below a proper GC winner.

A disappointing race, no atmosphere, dead silence in the stands at the winner which, clearly, no one had backed.

                                Fiver E/W on Walkon tomorrow.
Unless you've got any better ideas.
                                I haven't got a clue really.
                                Alison ? Pet ?
