I installed the AdblockPlus extension on my Mozilla Firefox browser (works for other browsers too), and that killed off annoying YouTube ad interruptions.

Have there been any drawbacks? I've been thinking of doing likewise.

None that I'm aware of. As Adblock's blurb says: Download Adblock Plus to block annoying ads and pop-ups and to improve loading times. Support fair publishers by allowing Acceptable Ads (can be turned off at any time) or by allowlisting websites.

It also rates 4th in the top 10 here.

Currently very much enjoying the Andras Schiff masterclass on the last three Beethoven piano sonatas:

Not live, as somewhat implied, but prerecorded.

I installed Ad Blocker on my pc and now enjoy YouTube without any ads. Unfortunately I can't do the same on my mobile phone for some reason.

                Hi Micky,

Do you have an iPhone or Android phone? If the former, then there should be an ''Adblock Plus for Safari'', issued by Eyeo GmbH, extension available to download in the App Store. I don't have an iPhone, but I have this extension installed on my iPad. Until the past few days, it has successfully blocked all YouTube ads. However, YouTube are getting more determined in their efforts to circumvent ad blockers. Pre-roll ads, that is ads at the start of videos, are now appearing on my iPad despite the Adblock Plus extension. I await on Adblock Plus to issue an update to counteract this, if such is possible. I am not aware of any other way of blocking YouTube ads on an iPhone or iPad.

I have two Android phones and have the ''Adblock Browser'', issued by eyeo GmbH, installed on them. It is available to download in the Google Store. I use this browser solely for accessing YouTube. On my newer phone, which has the latest Android Version 11 installed, the Adblock Browser still blocks all YouTube ads. However, on my old phone, Android version 8, YouTube pre-roll ads have now started to appear. This has only occurred in the past week. As I have this old phone connected to my amplifier, and use it solely as a transport for listening to music, this is annoying.

However, unlike on an iPhone or iPad, there is another way of blocking YouTube ads on Android. Install the ''Firefox Browser'', issued by Mozilla, from the Google Store. Open the Firefox browser and tap on the three vertical dots on the top right of the screen. Then tap on ''Add-ons''. Tap on ''uBlock Origin'' and install this ad blocker. Whatever way the Mozilla browser operates, uBlock Origin works excellently with it. To date, it has successfully blocked all YouTube ads and I can once again listen to music uninterrupted. Unfortunately, uBlock Origin is not compatible with the iPhone or iPad operating systems.

I hope the above proves of assistance to you.

I am interested in this, as ads are now generally getting to be a nuisance. One area of concern though is what privileges one grants to the ad block software. If those are all encompassing it would be important to trust the software not to run amok and cause a worse problem than allowing a few ads to get through.

Has anyone mentioned the Netherlands Bach Society's All of Bach project on YouTube? Absolutely amazing, and fabulous performances of the Passions, the B Minor Mass and many cantatas.

Seconded. I well remember in Geography O level classes in the early 60s being informed that Britain had "had the sense" to rule its territories "indirectly" in contrast to colonising countries such as France who advocated direct rule, thereby inspiring the, to his mind, communist-inspired struggles that had led to their independence. My father, along with many of his generation and views, considered the ending of the British Empire to have been "a bad thing", and colonised peoples should be regretful that we'd "abandoned them"! Ironically enough it was seeing "Ghandi" that made him change his mind; after watching the scene of the Amritsa massacre he turned to me, very white-faced, and said "Well, I never knew that happened!" Either people accept historical truths and respect the people revealing them or this country's reputation goes to the dogs.
