Do you have an iPhone or Android phone? If the former, then there should be an ''Adblock Plus for Safari'', issued by Eyeo GmbH, extension available to download in the App Store. I don't have an iPhone, but I have this extension installed on my iPad. Until the past few days, it has successfully blocked all YouTube ads. However, YouTube are getting more determined in their efforts to circumvent ad blockers. Pre-roll ads, that is ads at the start of videos, are now appearing on my iPad despite the Adblock Plus extension. I await on Adblock Plus to issue an update to counteract this, if such is possible. I am not aware of any other way of blocking YouTube ads on an iPhone or iPad.
I have two Android phones and have the ''Adblock Browser'', issued by eyeo GmbH, installed on them. It is available to download in the Google Store. I use this browser solely for accessing YouTube. On my newer phone, which has the latest Android Version 11 installed, the Adblock Browser still blocks all YouTube ads. However, on my old phone, Android version 8, YouTube pre-roll ads have now started to appear. This has only occurred in the past week. As I have this old phone connected to my amplifier, and use it solely as a transport for listening to music, this is annoying.
However, unlike on an iPhone or iPad, there is another way of blocking YouTube ads on Android. Install the ''Firefox Browser'', issued by Mozilla, from the Google Store. Open the Firefox browser and tap on the three vertical dots on the top right of the screen. Then tap on ''Add-ons''. Tap on ''uBlock Origin'' and install this ad blocker. Whatever way the Mozilla browser operates, uBlock Origin works excellently with it. To date, it has successfully blocked all YouTube ads and I can once again listen to music uninterrupted. Unfortunately, uBlock Origin is not compatible with the iPhone or iPad operating systems.
I hope the above proves of assistance to you.

I am interested in this, as ads are now generally getting to be a nuisance. One area of concern though is what privileges one grants to the ad block software. If those are all encompassing it would be important to trust the software not to run amok and cause a worse problem than allowing a few ads to get through.
