This may have been mentioned before on these boards, but to my delight I have been finding complete works taken from CDs on YouTube recently. Today I have enjoyed an entire Vivaldi opera - it's an excellent way of sampling before buying!

I'm actually getting cello lessons from YouTube. It's quite incredible what's available. I know nothing equals a good teacher in person but there are so many aspects, bow hold, thumb position, same note from different strings & positions etc. that really only require a good close-up & sharp picture to set you on the right road. Plus, of course, being able to actually hear the result.

I recently came across Solti's entire 1983 Bayreuth Ring on YouTube but haven't had time to listen just yet. The 1958 Paul Czinner film of Karajan conducting Der Rosenkavalier is there in its entirety. Only last night I came across a film of Karl Bohm conducting Mozart's Requiem with a stellar line up of soloists again complete. There are some complete Proms broadcasts there as well.
Thanks to whoever uploads all this stuff."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

Thanks for the link, Bryn. Wonderful that it was a free event, everyone evidently enjoying it, GD sprinting on to the stage at one point. Great fun. But with a visiting orchestra of the LAPO's stature, and the opening concert of an international festival, couldn't the programme have been a little more challenging?

If you join YouTube (Google) Music Premium you might get higher quality sound. Normal bitrate is 128 kbps AAC, premium bitrate is: 256 kbps AAC. But I'm not sure how this will work with your particular uploads. Wouldn't it depend on the quality of upload? Do Google force people to upload at a decent bit rate? In practice, do most people upload at a decent bit rate?
