So far as I can see from revelations of the last year : ref imbedded police within minor political campaigns and issue groups....that the 'security services ' may well find themselves communicating WITH themselves....

Simon you really do cheer us all up .........
No one has EVER been locked up in the UK without trial or even for a crime they didn't commit.

From the official stats: 217905 criminal offences brought to justice between March 2000 and March 2010.
From a Guardian report: 8470 criminal convictions quashed by the Court of Appeal in the period 1989 to 1999 an average of 770 cases pa. Mismatched decades but I couldn't find equivalent figures for 2000-2010
A further 3,500 cases from magistrates courts are quashed each year.
I hope that I have summarised correctly.
I take Simon's point about personal conduct but the numbers of wrongful convictions came as a complete and unpleasant surprise to me suggesting around a 1 in 25 chance of wrongful criminal conviction.

Forgot to add that the stats are for England and Wales only.

Surely - surely the Lib-Dems will not let this lunatic government off the hook this time.

It could be a ploy to boost the Royal Mail.

                  All going very smoothly.

( I am assuming this isn't "political" since only the Lib Dems seem to be opposed........and maybe the Green?)

anybody know anything about this bit?
