The Yellow EAR type ones are dreadful
much better are the silicone type beloved of surfers, much more comfortable and much better attenuation of unwanted sounds
or if you are really serious there are custom versions available to fit your ears exactly

but maybe Formula 1 calibre means cheap and nasty ?

There is no room at Chateau Caliban for Messrs Cheap & Nasty
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Interesting selections and didn't see one Schubert work mentioned. A little oasis of near normality.

Only six days to go now.

You missed two. Cloughie sneaked them in (disguised among the Ms).

Do people no longer go on holiday with a pocket heliograph? How else do they expect to get rescued in emergency?

It really puzzles me when people go on holiday and try to make it the same as when they are at home ?
when I was young it was the need for tinned potatoes when on family camping holidays , what on earth is wrong with cous cous ????
                      and
the whole "you can't get fresh milk in France" nonsense DRINK COFFEE then

I don't see the point of going away if you make it like home, French people camping do this with a vengeance , Fridge (big domestic one ) on a campsite and carpets in tents etc

I loved NOT listening to music for a month, coming back my ears were fresh and clean .............what's the point of self isolating oneself from the sonic environment ? being on a beach NOT hearing the sea but La Mer (for example) seems so wrong to me , even though Debussy was a great composer....

A friend of mine helped a couple with car trouble in France. When he opened the boot he found a pile of carefully labelled plastic boxes of sandwiches and other foods, each one marked with the day of the week, so that they didn't need to eat 'foreign muck!'
